World War Stamps & Coins

I am a collector of world war rifles and handguns and my interest in that hobby began with a developed appreciation for an English Enfield No 1 Mk III rifle that I bought. It didn't take long to form the same appreciation for the Axis weapons of the world wars and so started a new chapter of debt in collecting the German Mausers and their variants.

One of many things the Third Reich and Adolf Hitler's Germany will be known for are the atrocities it committed on it's attempt of world domination but the history of it's engineering, designing, and the artistry in the things it used as the symbols and propaganda to persuade it's people are fascinating. A great many are simply alluring in their craftsmanship and beauty.

A few of them are the coinage and the postal stamps of the Third Reich and I'm happy to present my collections of them here. The size of my stamp collection is rediculous for a novice Philatelic collector such as myself but I hope you are as fascinated by this chronological presentation of them as I am every time I open their stock books and look them over.

Third Reich Postal Stamps

The most common "Philatelic" numbering system used in identifying stamps in the United states and Canada is the "Scott Catalogue". The Michel catalog, Stanley Gibbons, and Yvert et Tellier calalogs are used more in the international arena and my references will be from them with most (if not all) coming from Michel (Mich or Mi).

Here are examples of many in the collection that were designed and ussued by the Third Reich.

Nazi Coins

I have full sets of Nazi era coinage but my main Numismatics interest is with the 2 Reichmark (62.5 % silver) and 5 Reichmark (90% silver) coins. These coins are large and thick. They have a profile of Hindenburg on the obverse and the Reich Eagle clutching a wreathed Swastika on the reverse The rims carry an inscription around the entire circumference of the coins reading "Gemeinnutz geht vor Eigennutz" which translates to something like 'The communitie's needs go before your own needs' or 'Public good gives before self-interest'
